Impact de l’hydratation/déshydratation sur la spéciation de surface d’espèces adsorbées

Abstract : Drying is a phenomenon known in both chemistry and physics. Until now studies have been more focused on physical aspects and less on chemical ones. This work aims at understanding the influence of drying on the speciation of molecules adsorbed on a surface. In order to uncover the speciation, infrared spectroscopy is used. First, solid/solution interfaces are thoroughly studied as they are the starting point for the drying phenomenon. These studies are focused to oxoanions and enabled on the proposal of an unambiguous surface speciation and also a rearrangement mechanism involving only surface complexe. On the basis of dried solid/solution interfaces (solid/gaz interfaces) spectra, the evolution of the surface speciation can be determined. What's more, the impact of experimental conditions of drying (pH, concentration) is put into light. Those are different whether the initial pH is acidic or basic. Solid/solution and solid/gaz interfaces are studied and new rearrangement mechanisms are proposed. The steps in between were studied with a somewhat different adsorbate: phthalate. The study of the step-by-step increase and decrease of relative humidity shows a surface reactivity that is not noticeable during more blunt hydration steps. This work was performed during the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) summer program at Osaka university under the supervision of Pr. Satoru Nakashima. Other methodological developements regarding linearly polarized IR spectroscopy have also been performed in this work. Although sizeable, this work is nothing but an opening to the study of dried and drying systems because of the large list of experimental parameters to study (drying relative humidity, flow rate, initial value of ionic strength...).
